1653, "of or pertaining to the Fr. province of Anjou," from Fr. Angevin, from M.L. Andegavinus, from Andegavum "Anger," city in France, capital of Anjou (L. Andegavia). In Eng. history, of the Plantagenet kings (beginning with Henry II) who were descended from Geoffrey, count of Anjou, and Matilda, daughter of Henry I.
