Anna Atkins was a botanist, and one of the earliest woman photographers. In 1841 she came into contact with Fox Talbot, one of her father's friends. In October 1843 Anna Atkins became the first person to print and publish a book, photographically illustrated with 424 pictures.

Anna Atkins produced the first photographically illustrated book and is recognised as the first female photographer, with her three-volume British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions appearing in instalments from 1843. Atkins used the Cyanotype process which had been invented in 1842 by Fox Talbot’s associate Sir John Herschel.

Biography- Anna Atkins was born in 1799 and deceased in 1871. Anna was raised by her father after her mother’s death. Challenges due to discrimination- Anna Atkins faced discrimination during her life. It took her a while for people to publish or even look at her pictures.
