To illustrate, during the 1975 occultation of a star by the asteroid Eros "all sorts of people saw things," meaning secondary events or extra dimmings.

Thanks to an adaptive optics system on a Hawaiian telescope, astronomers have taken the first Earth-based images of a moon orbiting an asteroid. This image of asteroid 45 Eugenia and its moon is a composite of five pictures taken during five nights last November.

The moon was formed from fragments of Earth after a collision with a giant asteroid relatively late in our planet's formation, new tests of moon rocks show. Computer models have shown that in this scenario 80 percent of the moon's material should have come from the asteroid, with only 20 percent from Earth.

Yes, asteroids can have moons! Some of the larger asteroids in our solar system actually do have moons. In 1993, an tiny moon called Dactyl was discovered orbiting the large asteroid Ida. In 1999 an 8 mile wide moon called Petit-Prince was discovered orbiting the 135 mile wide asteroid Eugenia.
