Damodar

The north-east part of the district is skirted by the East Indian railway beyond the river Damodar.

Manbhum contains the Jherria coalfield, in the Damodar valley, where a large number of mines have been opened since 1894.

The most important river is the Damodar, with its many tributaries, which drains an area of 2480 sq. m.

Upon investigation it appeared to me to be the synthesis of the words Hymalaya and Damodar.

Damodar replied, "Shankar was born after me, but your grace has made him my elder brother."
