Gezer

This was not a Mediterranean custom, nor does it appear to have prevailed outside the Gezer area.

Throughout the history of the Maccabean wars Gezer or Gazara plays the part of an important frontier post.

A large burial-cave at Gezer with a thick layer of burnt ash proves the lengthy duration of the earlier custom.

Some of the signs were at once recognised as zodiacal, and less elaborate specimens from Gezer and Megiddo furnish parallels.
