A genus of papilionaceous herbaceous plants, one species of which (G. glabra), is the licorice plant, the roots of which have a bittersweet mucilaginous taste. 2. (Med.) The root of Glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice root), used as a demulcent, etc.
