In that quarter lieth the sacred and auspicious river Godavari, full of water abounding in groves and frequented by ascetics.

A strip of Gondwana beds follows approximately the course of the Godavari.

Malaya is mentioned in the Puranas as a mountain in which the Godavari and other rivers take their rise.

In utility for irrigation the Kistna is also inferior to its two sister streams, the Godavari and Cauvery.

Aurangabad is a railway station on the Hyderabad-Godavari line, 435 m. from Bombay.
