In the past few years many companies have been formed for cutting wood in the Gran Chaco and also for extracting tannin.

Some of the Gran Chaco tribes are said to be very fierce, and European travellers have been killed by them.

The Salado meanders through the Gran Chaco, and is the only perennial river in that region.

There are said to be 60,000 square miles of timber in the Gran Chaco, and parts of Patagonia are well wooded.

Its chief features are its great plaza, its church and the palace of the governor of Gran Chaco.
