HANE

At about 10 o'clock the whole body of the Hane men came, and two or three from Wango went across to them.

Hane went back across the stream; and Wango went through the same performance, Taki making the speech.

About a quarter-past four, Hane saw in this direction a human figure of enormous dimensions.

Hane, noticing this, at once made a stooping movement, and this was also reproduced by the spectre.

One of the best descriptions of this phenomenon is given by the traveller Hane, who witnessed it on the 23d of May, 1797.
