World Trade Center definition

A complex of commercial buildings on the western side of lower Manhattan. The twin towers, more than one hundred stories high and a prominent part of the New York skyline, were destroyed when terrorist-hijacked planes crashed into them as part of the September 11 attacks (2001), with a staggering loss of lives. Other buildings in the complex suffered major damage when the towers collapsed.
