noun Physics.
a discontinuity in the graph of the absorption coefficient of a substance plotted against the wavelength of x-rays being absorbed, representing the minimum energy necessary to free electrons from particular shells of the atoms of the substance.
Also called absorption discontinuity, absorption limit.

Absorption edge is always a great word to know.
So is fission. Does it mean:
the splitting of the nucleus of an atom into nuclei of lighter atoms, accompanied by the release of energy
a radiation of high penetrating power that originates in outer space and consists partly of high-energy atomic nuclei
