Ansgar

We booked a circuit which included St. Ansgar and Mitchell, two villages, one four, the other ten miles to the north.

The Life of St Ansgar, from which this story is taken, is practically a contemporary authority.

Ansgar started in the year of 830, accompanied by Witmar, also of the Corvey convent.

In 846, Bremen was united to Hamburg and Ansgar was made archbishop.

Accordingly in 829 Ansgar, expelled from Denmark, went to Sweden where he laboured two years with some success.
