apneustic breathing ap·neus·tic breathing (āp-n&oomacr;'stĭk, -ny&oomacr;'-) n. A series of slow, deep inspirations, each one held for 30 to 90 seconds, after which the air is suddenly expelled by the elastic recoil of the lung.
