Ash·ke·lon or Ash·qe·lon (āsh'kə-lŏn', äsh'kě-lôn') An ancient city of southwest Palestine on the Mediterranean Sea. Inhabited as early as the third millennium B.C., it was a seat of worship for the goddess Astarte.
