As`te*rol"e*pis\, n. [NL., fr. Gr. 'asth`r star + ? scale.] (Paleon.) A genus of fishes, some of which were eighteen or twenty feet long, found in a fossil state in the Old Red Sandstone. --Hugh Miller.
