noun
a plant, Zephyranthes atamasco, of the amaryllis family, of the southeastern U.S., bearing a single white lilylike flower sometimes tinged with purple.
Also called fairy lily.

1620–30, Americanism; earlier attamusco < Virginia Algonquian
