Bang,# /'ba[ng]/ Bernhard Lauritz Frederik (1848–1932), Danish veterinarian. In 1897 Bang discovered that a bacterium (Brucella abortus) causedcontagious abortion in cattle and one form of undulant fever in human beings. He also made important contributions to the control of bovine tuberculosis and to the research on smallpox vaccination andbacillary disease in animals.
