City in northeastern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea; the second-largest city of Spain, after Madrid, its largest port, and its chief industrial and commercial center.

Note: Capital of the region of Catalonia, and long a stronghold of movements for Catalan independence, Barcelona has also been a center for radical political beliefs, including anarchism and socialism.
Note: Barcelona hosted the 1992 summer Olympic Games.
