battering parent syndrome bat·ter·ing parent syndrome (bāt'ər-ĭng)
n.
A group of signs and symptoms characterizing a psychological disorder in a child's parent or other custodian, resulting in a tendency or disposition to abuse the child. Elements contributory to this syndrome include a history of abuse upon the parent or other custodian during childhood and stress.
