beta radiation [(bay-tuh)]

High-energy electrons, carrying a negative charge, that are sent out by some radioactive nuclei. (See alpha radiation and gamma radiation.)

Note: Beta radiation, unlike alpha radiation, has some penetrating power and can pass through clothing and wooden walls.
