The two companies then took over the Hook position when the Black Watch withdrew.
“It is a great pleasure for Mrs. Kennedy and myself to welcome the Black Watch to the White House,” he said.
The Black Watch major in command presented him with an officer's dirk.
"The major just said that the motto of the Black Watch is 'Nobody wounds us with impunity,'" Kennedy reported.
Roderick, the piper, he says, has a grand collection of pipe tunes given him by an officer of the Black Watch.
"They say the Black Watch have been cut to pieces," he said.
There fell in this action 120 British officers and men, the heaviest losses being among the Black Watch.
"We are going away in the 'Black Watch' for a couple of months," said Mrs. Finn.
A private in the Black Watch was wounded at Magersfontein from within a distance of 1,000 yards.
