spasm of the muscle of the eyelids, causing the eyes to shut tightly, either as a response to painful stimuli or occurring as a form of dystonia

Gruel says Pellicano is broke and nearly blind due to an eye condition called spasmodic blepharospasm.

Leber has recently joined those cases which are described as blindness through blepharospasm, to amblyopia from disuse.

It is useful in some cases of blepharospasm associated with fissure at the outer canthus.

Sometimes all the muscles are involved, sometimes only one, for example the orbicularis oculi (palpebrarum)—blepharospasm.
