Scientific definitions for Bose-Einstein condensate

Bose-Einstein condensate

  1. A state of matter that forms at low temperatures or high densities in which the wave functions of the bosons that make up the matter overlap. The bosons all fall into the same ground level quantum state. Bose-Einstein condensates were predicted by Einstein in 1925 but not observed experimentally until 1995. Also called superatom See also state of matter.
