/'brIt,/ Richard (1789–1858), British internist and pathologist. One of the foremost physicians of his day, Bright was particularly interested indiseases of the pancreas, duodenum, liver, and especially the kidneys. In 1827 he published an important work on kidney disease describing the association between diseased kidneys, dropsy, andalbuminous urine. His name is associated with a group of diseases characterized by urine of this type.
