Later it becomes a female, develops a brood-pouch, and produces eggs.

This brood-pouch is formed by a series of overlapping plates attached to the bases of the thoracic limbs.

The eggs are carried in a brood-pouch under the back of the carapace, and in this the embryos undergo their development.
