Rip·ken   (rĭp'kən)   
American baseball player. A shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles, he was the American League's most valuable player in 1983 and 1991. In 1995 he broke Lou Gehrig's 2,130-game record for consecutive games played and voluntarily ended his streak in 1998 at 2,632 consecutive games.
