carbon monoxide poisoning n.
A potentially fatal condition caused by inhalation of carbon monoxide gas which competes favorably with oxygen for binding with hemoglobin and thus interferes with the transportation of oxygen and carbon dioxide by the blood. Also called carboxyhemoglobinemia.
