A city of northern Cuba on the Bay of Cárdenas, an inlet of the Straits of Florida. Cárdenas is a processing and shipping center. Population: 80,800.

Mexican soldier and politician who as president (1934-1940) distributed land to peasants, instituted social reforms, and expropriated foreign-held properties.
