Castaneda

Santa Cruz Castañeda was the wagon-master, an old-timer even in those days, and the veteran of many Indian fights.

Under one of the wagons the sergeant in charge of the troopers held counsel with Santa Cruz Castañeda.

Castañeda gives some few details concerning the mode of life and the customs of the inhabitants.

It lies in the same direction and about the same distance from Zuñi as stated in Castañeda's narrative.

Jaramillo had less occasion to fall into error resulting from such weakness, but he is much less detailed than Castañeda.
