Chioggia
town, southeastern Veneto regione (region), northern Italy. The town lies at the southern end of the Veneta Lagoon, 15 miles (24 km) south of the city of Venice, of which it is a suffragan diocese. Chioggia occupies several islands and is joined by a bridge to the mainland at the seaside resort of Sottomarina. Of Roman origin, the town was eventually destroyed by invading barbarians
