These appear to be the work of Chironomid larv, of which there are several specimens loose in the bottle containing the sponges.

Of the many species of Chironomid, (over eight hundred known), the vast majority are inoffensive.

To this group belong numerous Chironomid genera, none of which are known to be noxious to man.

Bloodworms (Chironomid larvae) were the largest food item, forming 72.8 per cent of the animal food.

The legs are relatively stouter than in the other Chironomid.
