American baseball player. As a right-handed pitcher mainly with the Boston Red Sox (1985-1996), he set (1986) a major-league record for single game strikeouts at 20, tying that record again in 1996. He earned his unprecedented fifth Cy Young Award in 1998.

American author who drew on his childhood along the Mississippi River to create masterpieces of humor and sarcasm, including Tom Sawyer (1876) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884).
