The tree, up to 9 m (30 feet) tall, has roundish shiny green leaves and clusters of white flowers. The fruit, up to 4 cm (1.5 inches) long, is a pulpy drupe, sweet but rather tasteless, sometimes used in preserves. Coco plum is planted occasionally in the subtropical United States as an ornamental.
