Alexandre (1873–1948), French obstetrician. Aleading specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, Couvelaire did original research on the anatomy of the pregnant uterus, uterine hemorrhages, and the pathology of newborn infants. In 1912 he publisheda work on the condition affecting the pregnant uterus that has been named after him.
