Word Origin & History
crisp
O.E. crisp "curly," from L. crispus "curled." It began to mean "brittle" 1530, for obscure reasons. Figurative sense of "neat, brisk" is from 1814. Potato crisps (the British version of U.S. potato chips) is from 1929.
