cubic system

one of the crystal systems to which a given crystalline solid can be assigned. Crystals in this system are referred to three mutually perpendicular axes of equal lengths. If the atoms or atom groups in the solid are represented by points and the points are connected, the resulting lattice will consist of an orderly stacking of blocks, or unit cells. The isometric unit cell is distinguished by four lines, called axes of threefold symmetry, about which the cell can be rotated by 120 without changing its appearance. This characteristic requires that the cell be a perfect cube; the threefold axes are the diagonals of the cube
