Decius

A violent reaction took place on the accession of Decius, whose name became an object of execration to mankind.

After a years episcopate he was first banished and then beheaded under Gallus, a worthy successor in persecution of Decius.

"If they be too strong for us, we shall catch them," replied Decius.

"The time for discretion is past for Decius Magius," said the other, wearily.

"That is always the way with barbarians," sneered Marcus Decius.
