Dickens, Charles

A nineteenth-century English author. His works include A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, and numerous other novels. He created many memorable characters, including Bob Cratchit, Fagin, Jacob Marley, Samuel Pickwick, Ebenezer Scrooge, and Tiny Tim. Dickens, a man of keen social conscience, used his books to portray the suffering of the working class at the time of the Industrial Revolution.
