American gangster who was declared Public Enemy Number One by the FBI in 1933 for his role in a string of bank robberies and at least three murders. He died in a gun battle with FBI agents in front of the Biograph Theater in Chicago.

Dillinger, John [(dil-uhn-juhr)]

A notorious bank robber of the early twentieth century, who escaped from prison twice. Dillinger was finally gunned down by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1934, outside a movie theater in Chicago.
