Even if his name mean ‘sky,’ Dyaus, Zeus, we must ask what mode of conceiving ‘sky’ is original.

At the birth of thy splendor Dyaus trembled, the Earth trembled for fear of thy anger.

Moreover, various deities were regarded as the progeny resulting from the fancied union of the Earth with Dyaus (Heaven).

Our Aryan forefathers looked up to the heavens and they gave it the name of Dyaus, from a root-word which means "to shine."

Ushas is a radiant maiden, born in the sky, daughter of Dyaus.
