Zapata, Emiliano

  1. A Mexican revolutionary leader of the twentieth century. He overran plantations in the Mexican Revolution of 1910, dividing the land among peasants. He did not accept the new government's promises of reform in 1915 and lived as an outlaw until he was killed in 1919.
