“The Evening and the Morning,” by Ken FollettThis prequel to “The Pillars of the Earth” imagines the founding of Kingsbridge, and it’s just as transporting — and lengthy — as Follett’s earlier epic.

This year has been epic for political news, and many of its biggest story lines — the coronavirus, racial injustice and the 2020 campaign — have played out in states at least as much as they have in Washington.

While I didn’t enjoy the story as much, it was still excellently paced, and ended as dramatic and epic as the series ever got with a sword fight atop a burning castle wall against your lifelong enemy.

We learn that Todbaum and Sandy were once writing partners who toiled for years on an epic called “Yet Another World.”

That came after an epic all-nighter in a concrete office building known as “the Bunker,” where election workers wearing masks, plastic face shields and gloves sorted through the remaining absentee ballots as journalists and poll watchers looked on.

And in the film, too, some of the most memorable scenes were the ones that were epically laugh-out-loud funny.

But there is something epically sad about the antithesis: the surprise disappointment.

Good lord, has the ARTPOP pop artist made that epically clear.
