Epping

It was a good day for cyclists, for the main road to the town of Epping was crowded with thousands of them.

We left London by the main highway, running for several miles through Epping Forest, which is really a great suburban park.

Here we have a vast pleasure-ground, the nearest of its kind to London save Epping Forest.

To my right the long dusty column of men and waggons still toiled along the Epping Road.

Epping Forest forms part of the ancient Waltham Forest, which covered the greater part of the county.
