exceed 
c.1374, from O.Fr. exceder, from L. excedere "depart, go beyond," from ex- "out" + cedere "go, yield" (see cede). Exceedingly (c.1470) means "very greatly or very much;" excessively (c.1460) means "too greatly or too much."
