Ex`o*the"ca\, n. [Nl., fr. Gr. 'e`xw outside + ? a case, box.] (Zo["o]l.) The tissue which fills the interspaces between the cost[ae] of many madreporarian corals, usually consisting of small transverse or oblique septa.
