The external auditory meatus (ear) is a small inconspicuous opening located just below and behind the eye.

The cavity communicates with the exterior by a large opening, the external auditory meatus (fig. 38, 22).

(a) On the external surface is a large oval opening, the external auditory meatus bounded by a thickened rim.

The external ear consists of the pinna and the external auditory meatus.

Not infrequently it burrows into the temporo-mandibular joint, or escapes by bursting into the external auditory meatus.
