In Holland, sub-marine peat is derived from fuci, and on parts of our own coast from Zostera marina.
The traces of fuci in this system are all but sufficient to allow of a distinction of genera.
This species is also attached to floating timber, sticks, fuci, and occasionally to pebbles at the bottom of the sea.
By report, it is extremely inoffensive, grows to the length of ten or twelve feet, and feeds on fuci.
Thuret has observed the same fact with certain sea-weeds or fuci.
There are two speceis of the fuci or seawreckwhich we also find thrown up by the waves.
