Gal·ves·ton   (gāl'vĭ-stən)   
A city of southeast Texas south-southeast of Houston on Galveston Island at the entrance to Galveston Bay, an arm of the Gulf of Mexico. The Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca may have been shipwrecked on the island in 1528. Population: 57,500.
