Gan`o*ceph"a*la\, n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. ? brightness + ? head.] (Paleon.) A group of fossil amphibians allied to the labyrinthodonts, having the head defended by bony, sculptured plates, as in some ganoid fishes.
