Grac·chus  (grāk'əs)  Roman social reformer. Known with his brother Gaius Sempronius Gracchus (153-121 B.C.) as "the Gracchi," he sought to aid poor farmers through greater subdivision of land but was killed in a riot. Gaius assumed his brother's work, initiating several reforms, and met a similar fate. |
